How It Works

Question. How do I consign here?

Answer. Bring in, mail in, upload or e-mail info@upscalegroup.com photos of the items you would like to consign. From the photos we can determine if the items will sell well here.

Question. Can you give me an idea of how my items will be priced by viewing the pictures?

Answer. Many things do not appear in a photo. We must see the item in person to arrive at a price. Upon inspection at our store only we look at several factors. The general condition, construction, age, patina, manufacturer and CONSUMER DEMAND. Feel free to walk around our showroom for similar items to see how they are priced.

Question. Can I put a minimum selling price on it?

Answer. We determine the starting price on all consigned items and mail you a detailed report with all the starting prices. We have many years of experience in pricing tens of thousands of items in our local market place. Due to our high volume of customers and our mark down policy each piece will find the correct selling price so our consignor is paid more quickly.

Question. Do you accept consignments everyday?

Answer. Yes, you can bring your items to the store 7 days per week that have been pre-approved for consignment. Be prepared to unload the items into our warehouse. We have pick up and delivery service available.

Question. Do you have high foot traffic?

Answer. Yes, we have more foot traffic than any other consignment store in Maine.

Question. Do you think I should sell the item(s) myself?

Answer. No, don’t risk strangers coming to your home to make ridiculous offers.(if they show at all)

Question. Do you have any other fees I should be aware of in addition to the 50/50 split?

Answer. Yes, due to the volume of items we sell, there is an item fee of $19.99 per item. This fee is paid by the purchasing customer. However, if the item sells for $19.99 or less, no payment would be due to you. The local pick up fee is noted on your consignment agreement and removed from your first payout of sold items.

Question. Do you send out checks?

Answer. Consignors are paid the following month of the sale on the 15th by mail.

Upscale Consignment Furniture accepts furnishings that are in "like new" condition and less than 10 years of age. The items must be of a good quality construction, have minimal wear and tear, and is of a style that would be of interest to a large number of customers.

Case Goods (Tables, bookcases, bedroom furniture, etc)

·         10 years old or newer except for salable vintage and antique furniture

·         Solid wood construction preferred, although some veneered plywood or particle board items will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. No "knock-down" (self-assembled) items accepted

·         Wood finish must be smooth with consistent color. No water stains or noticeable scratches on the primary surfaces

·         No broken or missing hardware/pieces. Doors and drawers must operate smoothly

·         Entertainment Centers accepted on a case-by-case basis.

·         We do accept retail style antique’s and antique reproductions

·         Items that can be moved with ease by two men

Upholstered Furniture (Sofas, Chairs, Recliners, etc.)

·         Usually 5-7 years old or newer in current fabric & style

·         Must be from non-smoking home

·         Upholstery must be absolutely clean, no apparent wear, and odor free. No stains. No faded or sun-bleached areas. No pet hair. No tears. No infestation now or at anytime

·         Finish of wood or metal trim should be smooth and consistent in color.

·         No broken or missing parts

·         Mechanical movements must operate smoothly (i.e. recliners, hide-a-beds, massage chairs)

Décor (must be in perfect condition, and be able to price at $50 to $75 or more)

·         Art

·         Framed Artwork

·         Floor & Table Lamps with shades

·         Mirrors

·         Oriental Rugs or higher price point like new Karastan style

·         Crystal Chandeliers (minimum selling price $200)

·         Other Quality Items for the Home

·         Pool Tables, Piano’s must be moved by you or your mover

What we cannot accept

·         Glass top dining tables (dinette and patio tables OK)

·         Lamps without shades (or shades which have yellowed)

·         Mediterranean furniture

·         Black Lacquer Furniture

·         Cribs or toddler beds

·         Lamps/Chandeliers without working bulbs

·         Waterbeds

·         Waterfall furniture

·         Anything in need of repair or refinishing
